UK's Nationwide using Level Four Software to develop, test new ATM apps

May 14, 2003

LONDON -- Level Four Software, a provider of ATM test and development software, says that Nationwide, the UK's largest building society, has implemented Level Four's ATM Channel Development Suite to develop, test and rapidly deploy new content across its ATM network.

According to a news release, Nationwide selected Level Four's ATM Channel Development Suite to help create, prototype, test, manage and implement both existing ATM downloads and new ATM services. It will also assist Nationwide with its migration to the new EMV (Europay/MasterCard/Visa) standard for chip cards.

Nationwide needed software that could provide support for new types of ATM devices that the society plans to deliver, according to the release. For instance, Nationwide is introducing an automated cash deposit service that will enable customers to deposit any combination of paper cash at a dedicated machine, which will sort, quantify, scan and automatically credit users' accounts.

Level Four's software is able to simulate how any machine in the Nationwide network will interact with its BASE24 host system in every possible transaction scenario, according to the release. This enables Nationwide to automate the testing process so that staff no longer have to manually test transactions on real ATMs, which is both costly and time consuming.

The ATM Channel Development Suite, a toolkit that allows financial institutions to develop, test and deploy new content and applications, includes ATM Simulator, ATM Developer and EMV FastTrack plug-ins, allowing the rapid introduction of EMV compliance.

Several other UK financial institutions, including Lloyds TSB and Abbey National, are Level Four customers. Level Four also has a co-marketing agreement with ACI Worldwide to promote its ATM tools to ACI clients Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
