LONDON -- Abbey National customers with Orangemobile phones can top up their talk time balance at Abbey's 3,000 ATMs beginning Sept. 9, according to a BBC report.
Account holders will enter their PINs in the usual way, then select a mobile top-up option from the transaction menu on the screen. After punching their mobile phone number into the machine, they can add cash to their Pay As You Go mobile phone in denominations of £10 (approximately $15.50 U.S.), £20, £30, £40 or £50. The credit is transferred to the phones within seconds.
Abbey and Orange are the first to launch mobile top-ups from ATMs in the UK. Abbey National, which piloted the service at five ATMs at its head office, says it is looking to expand it to include other mobile operators.
Gary Brown, of Abbey National, said, "We're delighted that, with Orange, we are the first to launch this innovative service. We are keen to extend the service and work with other phone network providers in the future."
