U.K. Post Office to install 1,500 ATMs

June 22, 2006

SUNDERLAND, England - The United Kingdom's Post Office announced in a news release that it expects to add 500 surcharge-free ATMs to its existing network of 1,000 terminals. The cash-dispensers will be installed in Post Office branches over the next five years.

The Post Office began rolling out surcharge-free terminals in October 2005. The Post Office, under an agreement with financial services partner Bank of Ireland, announced last summer that it planned to install 1,000 surcharge-free ATMs and withdraw its involvement with third-party fee-charging ATM suppliers.

The Post Office has 14,300 branches throughout the United Kingdom.
