Turkey joins European ATM Security Team

Bankalararasi Kart Merkezi A.S. will report national incident and loss statistics for ATM-related fraud and physical attacks in Turkey.

Bankalararasi Kart Merkezi A.S. has just joined the European ATM Security Team as the National Member for Turkey, according to a press release. While EAST is focused on the Single Euro Payments Area, BKM will participate as a non-SEPA member.

BKM operations related to card payment systems include:

  • validating interbank transactions and performing clearing;
  • performing strategic operations throughout the country for card payment systems;
  • developing the rules and standards for domestic cards; and
  • finding solutions to common problems.

According to the release, BKM is considered a model provider due to its productive operations, high transaction volume, and other factors.

EAST boasts national representation from 25 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. EAST seeks national representative members from: Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovenia.

Non-SEPA members of EAST include Canada, Russia, Serbia, South Africa, Turkey and Ukraine. EAST seeks to establish links with member organizations that are able to share national incident and loss statistics for ATM related fraud and physical attacks. Interested parties should contact EAST.
