Trusted Security to intro remote ATM key loading option at RDS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. � Trusted Security Solutions (TSS) will debut its A98-R, which provides remote loading of cryptographic keys into ATMs, at the Retail Delivery Show (booth 3226) in New Orleans, Nov. 19-20.

According to a news release, the A98-R implements both the Certificate Based Protocol (CBP) and the Signature Based Protocol (SBP) that are defined in the emerging ANSI X9.24-2 Standard on Retail Cryptographic Key Management. Diebold ATMs implement CBP and NCR ATMs implement SBP.

With the introduction of the A98-R, the A98 provides a compliant and affordable end-to-end solution to ATM key management that is virtually vendor neutral with respect to ATMs, Host Security Modules and Host Application Software, according to the release.

"We recognize that all ATMs will not immediately convert to remote keying, and some will never convert due to various factors, therefore the A98 supports all key management methods from the old legacy and non-compliant split left/right 8-character key halves, multiple 16-character components, multiple 32 character triple DES components and both SBP and CBP remote keying" said TSS President Dennis "Abe" Abraham.

Steve Walker, TSS' vice president of development, said in the release that TSS, with the cooperation of two major host application software vendors, defined an XML flow over TCP/IP that confines modifications to ATM device drivers.

All models of the A98-A are upgradeable to the A98-R without loss of function and with a minimal interruption to operations. Once upgraded, to activate remote keying for a particular ATM, the ATM record is opened in the database and the remote keying function is activated for that ATM.

The A98-R will be available in the first quarter of 2004.
