Triton moves past NCR in U.S. ATM shipments

March 29, 2000

LONG BEACH, Miss. -- Triton announced that its total shipments of cash dispensers in 1999 puts the company in the number two spot in the U.S., surpassing long-time rival NCR Corp. of Dayton, Ohio. According to a recent survey by Faulkner & Gray's Bank Network News, Triton shipped 9,445 ATMs in 1999, edging past NCR's 9,234 units. The survey, which measures the number of ATMs shipped in the U.S., puts Triton in second place behind Diebold Inc., of Canton, Ohio, which shipped 9,900 machines last year. Although number two in total U.S. shipments, Triton is still the leading provider of ATMs for off-premise locations. In 1999, ATM placements in off-premise sites surpassed the traditional bank market for the first time ever. Off-premise machines now comprise 52 percent of the total ATM marketplace. Triton's shipments have increased steadily in recent years, growing from 7,739 in 1997 to 8,925 in 1998 to 9,445 last year. Dr. Ernest Burdette, Triton's president, said, "With the bank ATM market slowing, we made a strategic decision to concentrate our efforts on non-traditional ATM placements."
