Triton adds TCP/IP option to ATMs

NEW ORLEANS -- Triton is expanding communication options for its ATMs to include TCP/IP (Internet protocol), the company announced at BAI's Retail Delivery Conference.
According to Triton, the new alternative is expected to make off-premise ATMs even more attractive to banks. TCP/IP offers fast transaction times and allows ATMs to communicate over an existing Ethernet network. Banks can use an existing infrastructure such as a frame relay network, adding ATMs for little or no additional cost.
"Banks often prefer leased-line technology for their ATMs based on the need for high transaction speeds and flawless reliability, but the higher cost of leased-line technology has deterred many banks from deploying off-premise ATMs," said Ernest Burdette, president and CEO of Triton. "New communication options like TCP/IP are opening a new and lucrative market for many banks."
In addition to TCP/IP, Triton offers four other communication options: Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD), VSAT satellite communications, leased-line SDLC and dial-up.
