Transaction processor CDS expands options for wireless ATMs

September 16, 2004

NEW ORLEANS - Third-party ATM processor Columbus Data Services (CDS) has introduced a new offering for ATM operators that provides a solution for simple Internet protocol (IP) connectivity and better wireless coverage at an affordable rate.

According to a news release, as compared to standard dial-up service, the CDS product can reduce communication costs by 30 percent and process transactions up to three times faster.

Working with Precidia Technologies and leading wireless carriers including Verizon and Nextel, CDS has created a complete wireless ATM processing solution that enables operators to migrate to newer wireless technologies and benefit from greater coverage. The package, including handsets, minutes and all hardware requirements, provides merchants with a fast, cost-effective means to bring fixed and mobile ATMs online.

"We've sourced the best wireless providers according to coverage and rates and bundled it with the Precidia CellDial, a CDS-certified device that enables standard dial-up ATMs to send transactions using IP," said John Willmon, vice-president of CDS." The solution is easily implemented and does not require any change to existing ATM equipment or systems. This makes it an ideal choice for mobile ATM operators who provide ATMs to fairs and other temporary locations."

According to the release, the CellDial eliminates the need for dial lines and, together with the ATM, enables a pre-dial function that speeds transactions.

"The CDS ATM package provides operators a unique value proposition whereby they have better transaction processing at a fixed cost," said Deepak Wanner, president of Precidia Technologies. "And, like all Precidia IP access devices, wired or wireless, the CellDial helps ATM operators and others bring legacy equipment online for more flexible implementations, faster rollouts and reduced communication costs."

Cabe & Cato, an Independent Sales Organization based in Marietta, Ga., is using the CDS solution. "We're no longer at the mercy of local phone companies," said Warren Cato, CEO of Cabe & Cato. "In addition to significantly reducing our monthly expenses, ATM installations are easier and we save approximately $300 per install."
