Bankcard holders who used a Barclays ATM last weekend were advised this week to check their bank balance for a double entry of the withdrawal.
The bank has apologized for the inconvenience to customers, some of whose accounts were left overdrawn due to the error, according to a report by Metro.
Customers of Think Money also reported that they had been affected by the problem and some complained that it was not resolved in a timely manner.
British MP Khalid Mahmood said the bank's behavior was "irresponsible."
"This will cause a lot of stress to a lot of people and all Barclays can do is apologize when they should be debiting the money back as quickly as possible," he told Metro.
A spokesperson for the bank defended its response, saying that Barclays had acted immediately and swiftly to resolve the problem.
