ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. -- Hot on the heels of the appearance of a Tranax Mini-Bank 2100 in the movie "Barbershop," (See related story Lights, camera, ATM) another Tranax ATM is getting its pop culture props with a recurring role in the new ABC series "MDs."
Faye Fleming, a sales representative for Automatic Bankcard Services, the Atlantic Beach, N.C.-based ISO that provided the machine being used on the series, said that after its debut on the Oct. 9 episode, the Mini-Bank 1500 will be seen in the lobby of the hospital where much of the show's action takes place.
Automatic Bankcard's CashStop logo will be visible on the machine's lighted topper, Fleming said. "We're excited. We think it will be great advertising for us," she said.
Fleming said she's been told that the Mini-Bank will get close-ups in two upcoming episodes in which transactions will be performed at the ATM. For that reason, she said, the machine was equipped with demo software so that it can actually dispense bills -- although the TV crew opted to use test currency rather than real cash.
Alluding to the show's tough Wednesday night time slot, in which it faces NBC's "The West Wing," Fleming said, "Let's hope they get all of the shows with transactions on."
