TR34 remote key-transfer project completed at Alabama credit union

Redstone Federal Credit Union, working with Trusted Security Solutions, has implemented a remote key-loading PCI- compliant protocol, giving the credit union the ability to remote key load all of its ATMs, according to a press release.

"We continually upgrade our remote key loading solution, but our real strength is in the expertise of our staff to stay current with the ever-evolving PCI standards so that our code represents the best chance for our clients to stay ahead of the compliance game in ATM key management," David Pharr, president of Trusted Security Solutions said in a press release.

PCI rules mandate that ATM owners must step up their previous hash algorithm (SHA1) used in remote-key loading techniques to be compliant with SHA256. There were challenges involved in making this happen, however, for all ATM fleet owners and ATM manufacturers. Some ATM manufacturers required the use of the hash algorithm SHA256, along with implementation of TR34, according to the release.

Redstone and other users of these types of ATMs needed software and firmware to facilitate the current limitations of most host switches. Once the software became available, Redstone and Trusted Security Solutions worked together, testing the system until the right combination was found.

"We knew that we needed to start using SHA256 to remote key load our ATMs, but we just had to get everyone to the table to get us what we needed to do that.
