Reston, VA January 8, 2003 – Transaction Network Services (TNS), one of the world's leading providers of fast, cost-effective data communications services for transaction-oriented applications, announces a new service offering enabling merchants and ATM terminal operators the ability to access TNS' private transaction data network via the Internet. With this new TransXpress® Secure service, TNS now leverages the pervasive reach of the Internet and adds a level of security using industry-standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption methodologies, in addition to the dial-up and dedicated-line access methods already in place.

Now commercially available, TransXpress® Secure overcomes security concerns associated with Internet connectivity by providing a secure path between the client and the TransXpress® Secure gateway SSL server. With TransXpress® Secure, processors can enable retail merchants and ATM terminal operators to use their existing Internet connection provided by the local Internet Service Providers (ISPs). They can now take advantage of the low-cost, high-speed network services available, such as DSL and cable modems, to access TNS' secure data networks. TransXpress® Secure requires an IP connection from the client-side devices (Web server, IP PoS, or IP ATMs) through the Internet.

"We recognize that many merchants are using the Internet to meet their communications needs and with TransXpress® Secure they can now leverage their existing infrastructure for secure credit and debit authorizations," said Larry Crompton, SVP and GM of TNS' POS Division."TNS' goal is to maximize access to TNS' private, secure data networks.TransXpress® Secure is an enhancement to our range of network access options, which means that processors can now offer their merchant customers greater flexibility. Now any merchant with an ISP connection can access TNS' secure, private network without adding another communication path into its organization.Similarly, at the host end, the processor can use their existing TNS connection. This translates into reduced network communication costs and faster transactions through an always-on connection."

"TNS specializes in the secure transportation and management of financial transactions – such as credit and debit card payments – and provides fast and efficient data links between banks, retailers and other commercial organizations,"said Brian Bates, President and COO of TNS.We are pleased to be offering the next enhancement in our access suite to provide an additional way to connect to TNS' private transaction network. This enhancement is part of the ongoing innovation TNS is bringing to its customers."
