Three jailed for ring of ATM scams in Europe

Reading Evening Post: Three East Europeans have been jailed in the United Kingdom for an ATM skimming scam.

The three - all university graduates from countries within the former Soviet Union - had set up a scanning device and camera to steal card details when people used the ATM.

But they were caught after a Neighborhood Watch coordinator grabbed the skimming device - a metal strip with a pinhole camera mounted on the ATM known as a Lebanese loop.

In the suspects' car police discovered a metal molding, a mini camera, a map open to Reading, number-plate fixers, a roll of tape and a "Do Not Use. Out of Order" sign, which police believe was likely to be placed on other ATMs in the area to divert users to the targeted one.

All three admitted conspiracy to defraud.
