Thieves have used the "jaws of life" to pry open ATMs in Virginia and Maryland. They first targeted an ATM at a TD Bank, where they failed to get the door off, so they instead used the device on ATMs at three 7-Eleven locations where they were able to steal cash, according to a report by NBC 4.
One store in George's County, Maryland remained closed after thieves broke into the ATMs. The "jaws of life" tool is a battery-operated hydraulic spreader used primarily to retrieve people trapped in vehicles.
The investigation is ongoing.
