'Lemme think ... Where did we find that half-ton chunk of scrap metal?' Two Florida men were stopped and arrested by police who spotted an ATM in the back of their truck. According to a media report, Francisco Hernandez, 54, and Jesus Antonio Sanchez, 50, said they had been out collecting scrap metal, and just could not remember where they had found the ATM. Police reminded the memory-challenged suspects that they had used a stolen excavator to demolish a drive-through vestibule, dislodge the ATM and deposit it in their truck bed. Said a bank employee, "I've never seen anything like that, to take a dang bulldozer ... like in cartoons, to demolish a building."
Computer Services Inc. reported that revenues grew 4.7 percent to $57.1 million for Q1 of fiscal 2016 compared with $54.6 million for 2015. Net income rose 20 percent in the period to $7.6 million. This was CSI's 44th consecutive quarter of revenue growth, which CEO Steven Powless attributed to new customers and increased volume from existing customers.
CU24 announced the election of James B. Smith as chairman of the board, Becky Hulett as vice chairman and David Southall as secretary-treasurer. Smith is also chairman of the board of the Mississippi CU Association and vice chairman of Accolade Investment Advisory LLC. Hulett is SVP and CFO of 121 Financial CU in Jacksonville, Florida. Southall is President and CEO of Innovations FCU in Panama City, Florida.
EMVCo, the technical body that manages EMV specifications and testing processes, added eight members to its associate program in the past year: Bank of America Merchant Services, business associate; CardinalCommerce, business and technical associate; China Information Technology Security Evaluation Center, technical associate; Creditcall, business and technical associate; Intel, technical associate; RSA, technical associate; Shazam, business and technical associate; Soft Space, technical associate.
Entrust Datacardannounced that financial institutions have instantly issued over 2.1 million chip cards globally in 2015 with Datacard instant issuance hardware and associated software. The company said this number is projected to grow — especially within the U.S. where EMV migration is rapidly accelerating.
Fiserv Inc. announced that two clients in the Asia Pacific region were honored at the Asia Customer Experience in Financial Services Awards. Bangkok Bank was awarded Best Technology Implementation — Front-End for initiatives executed in conjunction with Fiserv; Westpac Banking Corp. was awarded Best Omnichannel Customer Experience. The CXFS Awards recognize industry leaders that are setting new standards in customer experience and engagement for retail financial services.
Morphis, a provider of ATM, banking and armored carrier software, announced the appointment of Gary Faulkner as CEO and chairman of the board, and Alif Rahman as president and CTO. Faulkner has served on the board since 1999; Rahman is a co-founder of the company. Doug Deitel, former president and CEO of Morphis, retired last month after 11 years of service.
