TAIPEI, Taiwan -- People in Taiwan can breathe easier knowing that their country's ATMs passed a year 2000 compliance test recently, according to an article by the Associated Press. As a result, finance officials are discouraging people from hording cash before the new year. More than 250 cash dispensers/ATMs from 128 local and foreign banks endured the three-hour test with no mishaps, a Finance Ministry official said. Many banks around the world have already conducted or plan to conduct similar tests to ward off a massive rush to withdraw money, especially from the ATMs.
