Sri Lankan police arrest 7 suspects in ATM theft

Sri Lankan police in Gampola have arrested seven suspects for allegedly stealing an ATM, according to a report by Adaderana.

During a raid, police retrieved the ATM and a gun belonging to District MP Ali Sabry Raheem, which was reportedly stolen from his office during the Aragalaya protests in 2022 against the government for its handling of the economy.

During the theft on Jan. 24, four suspects tied up a security officer at the bank and removed the ATM, which they placed in a van. Police later found the van abandoned in Peradeniya, with the driver tied up.
