Spark ATM acquires First Data subsidiary CashAxcess

March 14, 2013

Spark ATM Systems continues to consolidate its position in the South African IAD market with the acquisition of the ATM estate of CashAxcess, a subsidiary of payment processor First Data Corp. The fleet includes 91 ATMs located in retail, leisure and hospitality venues.

The acquisition supports the company's overall growth strategy, said Marc Sternberg, managing director of Spark ATM Systems. Since its launch in 2006, the company has deployed more than 2,000 ATM's across the country.

"The CashAxcess acquisition complements the strong organic growth we are experiencing, with average monthly installations of 50 to 70 ATMs across the country," Sternberg said. "Access to cash plays an integral role in South Africa's economy and will … for many years to come. The ATM deployment industry is thus thriving and we are well placed to meet this growing demand."

The company recently received honors for its customer service, winning an award in the ATM Deployer category of the 2012 South African Service Awards.

The competition comprised seven categories and included major South African brands such as Nedbank, Absa and Vodacom. The awards are determined using ratings from entrants' clients.

"[W]e have placed great emphasis on ensuring that our most important stakeholders, our clients, receive the best service at all times," said Russel Berman, sales director at Spark ATM Systems. "We are thrilled to receive recognition for our hard work and determination and will continue to seek out new ways and means to uphold this level of excellence."
