SoFi Tech Solutions has announced a partnership with Mexican fintech Orbi and Mastercard to launch a crypto-linked card program in Mexico, according to a press release.
The program allows Orbi customers to make everyday purchases using either traditional fiat currency or digital assets. Crypto funds convert automatically at the point of sale, ensuring merchants receive standard fiat currency. Physical and virtual cards also will support cash withdrawals at ATMs across Mexico via Mastercard's domestic network, Mexico Domestic Switch (MxDS).
SoFi Tech Solutions is providing the issuing, processing, transaction authorization, compliance, and BIN sponsorship behind the project. The platform incorporates SoFi's SoFiUSD stablecoin to facilitate digital dollar transactions and set the foundation for future cross-border payments.
"Mexico is one of the world's largest remittance markets, and stablecoins are becoming an increasingly important way to move money across its borders," Kathleen Pierce-Gilmore, president of SoFi Tech Solutions, said in the release. "Together with Orbi and Mastercard, we are giving people in Mexico a trusted way to receive, hold and spend digital dollars."
The initiative comes as digital assets see rising regional demand. Bitso data shows stablecoins accounted for 40% of crypto purchases among its users in Latin America in 2025, surpassing bitcoin at 18%.
The Orbi card program will be accepted wherever Mastercard is recognized worldwide.
