According to M2 Communications, SmartAxis will launch a new payment service for the Internet and other digital networks that uses e-purse smart cards that can be re-loaded using a software-based cashpoint or ATM. Based on smart card digital cash rather than credit cards, the service facilitates the selling over the Internet of low-value digital goods or services such as online music or online games, enabling users to buy a music track instead of a CD or to pay for gaming on a pay-as-you-play basis. The service will also offer access to buyers who cannot get a credit card.
