Siemens Nixdorf customizes POS system for Oregon retailer

February 25, 2002

AUSTIN, Texas -- Siemens Nixdorf Retail and Banking Systems LLC has installed Siemens Nixdorf Beetle/XL POS stations at all 30 locations of Eugene, Ore.-based retailer Troutman's Emporium. Each store is configured with a single NT server, 3Com model 1100 switching hubs, all new category 5 wiring, shared 56KB voice/data circuit to headquarters and an NT workstation PC.

The customized system helped the store meet its goal of installing applications specifically targeted at increasing return on investment, customer service, satisfaction and loyalty.

Major applications include: Speedi-App, which allows salespeople to open new charge accounts from any terminal or back office workstation via an automated link to the credit bureau with a typical response time of 30 seconds; Merchandise Inquiry, which locates merchandise in any locally linked stores searching on size, color and SKU number; and In-Store Sales Audit, which performs register balancing, bank deposits and full sales audit.
