The King County Council in Washington has voted to require businesses in unincorporated parts of the county to accept cash of up to $200. In the state, 2% of all residents are unbanked, according to a report by KUOW.

The law is aimed at helping the unbanked and underbanked make purchases, as well as consumers who prefer using cash.

However, the law will only apply to in-person transactions, not kiosks. In addition, businesses with major security or hardships can apply for an exemption.
