Scheduling conflicts compel reshuffling of ATMIA 2018 European conference calendar

The ATM Industry Association has released a statement clarifying its calendar of European conferences for 2018. According to a press release, the clarification follows scheduling clashes in 2017 between similar events in the ATM industry.

"Our new plan responds to requests from members to avoid having perceived similar events taking place in similar locations during the same time period," said ATMIA CEO Mike Lee. "Since the breakup of our previous conference partnership, we have been seeking a solution to this scheduling problem arising from competing events occurring close together."

The scheduling issue arose when ATMIA and its previous conference partner, RBR, parted ways at the end of 2016. ATMIA has since partnered with Reconnaissance International — a firm focused on document authentication and personal identification — to co-host its European conferences.

To resolve scheduling conflicts, ATMIA will move its annual security conference in 2018 to a June timeframe and shift its main European conference to fall in the September-October period, thus creating a six-month separation between events seen in some quarters as similar.

The 2018 ATM & Payments Security conference will now take place June 12–13 at the Lancaster, London. ATMIA has not yet disclosed the date for the European conference and said it is exploring the possibility of moving the conference, traditionally held in London, to the European mainland.

"ATMIA made strenuous attempts to bring about the situation where there would only be two events in 2018 between the former conference partners, instead of four," ATMIA Europe Executive Director Ron Delnevo said. "But our comprehensive proposal was turned down. Switching our 2018 events around like this was the only option left. What members and stakeholders should consider is that these two planned events in Europe are going to be the only industry association events in this important region in 2018."

"We continue to offer the olive branch to our former conference partners," Lee added. "We would be happy to hold joint planning meetings in January 2018 for the 2019 conference schedule."
