The State Bank of India is debuting a mobile facility it's calling "the doorstep ATM" to service customers at home, especially the elderly and those with special needs that have curtailed banking due to the coronavirus.
Customers interested in using the doorstep ATM send a message through WhatsApp, or call the bank directly, and explain services they need. The bank sends out the mobile facility and staff to assist, according to a Verdict report.
The doorstep ATM not only helps customer social distance, it provides a range of pickup and delivery services including cash pickup and delivery; check pickup and delivering requisition slips, delivery of drafts, term deposit advice, life certificate pickup and additional document pickup.
State Bank of India Chief General Manager Ajay Kumar said the ATM service was first introduced in Lucknow, India, and the bank is looking to add additional markets and mobile facilities.
