The Royal Bank of Canada has announced a $1.4 billion investment into Canadian technology companies through its RBCx Growth Fund. Thr fund will give up to $416 million per company, along with strategic partnerships and expansion support, according to a press release.

The fund is designed for energy, AI, healthcare and other technology companies. Sid Paquette will serve as head of RBCx and will lead up the fund.

The fund was created in response to the lack of domestic leadership in growth funds, as in Canada only 33% of these funds are led by Canadian investors.

"Our ambition is simple: a future where more of the world's next great companies build in Canada and stay in Canada," Dave McKay, president and chief executive officer, RBC, said in the release. "For decades, Canada has produced an outsized share of world-class entrepreneurs and tech talent who want to build global companies at home. But when they're ready to scale, too often they get pulled elsewhere. The RBCx Growth Fund I is about changing that by putting capital and partnership behind our most promising homegrown innovators. Because a fundamental part of nation building is ensuring your best builders never have to leave to succeed."
