Proximity mobile payments see huge growth

The number of people using proximity global payments rose by 29% from 2019 to 2020. In 2019, 72 million used mobile payments, and by 2020 that number rose to 92.3 million, driven largely by COVID-19, according to a report by emarketer.

Visa and Mastercard also both reported that usage for their contactless cards had gone up by 150% and 40%, respectively, according to the report.
