Police charge 2 Texas men for $217K ATM theft

Police have charged Ryan Rashad Powell, 18, with simple robbery and fleeing a police officer, and Zacoby Omarrlan Terrell, 19, with simple robbery for stealing $217,000 from a Wells Fargo ATM in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Both men were arrested on July 19, according to a report by Fox 19.

While an ATM technician was working on a money jam in the ATM, the two men approached him and said they were going to rob him. They then took cartridges of cash out of the ATM and fled in their van. Police later discovered the van at an apartment and a chase ensued.

Investigators said there is a trend of men coming from Texas to Minnesota to steal from ATMs. In particular, in December 2023, four men from Texas were charged with using a crowbar and chains to steal an ATM from a hotel in Roseville.
