Pittsburgh-based PNC Bank has been named ATM provider for the Smithsonian Institution. The bank will install 11 ATMs in the Smithsonian's Castle building, six museums and the National Zoo.
According to a report at bizjournals.com, the Smithsonian and PNC share a long history. PNC — then Corcoran & Riggs — first provided financial services to the Smithsonian in 1846.
"The Smithsonian and PNC have a long and distinguished history of working together," said Michael Harreld, PNC's regional president in a statement. "We are delighted to build upon this relationship with the installation of PNC ATMs to help make banking more convenient for the millions of people who visit the Smithsonian museums each year."
PNC will deploy the Smithsonian ATMs this summer. The new installation will increase the bank's total ATM count in the DC area to 436. The Smithsonian is currently using non-branded white-label ATMs, the bizjournal report said.
