PNC completes upgrade of 3,600 ATMs to accept checks, cash

PNC Bank has announced the completion of its year-long project to add new features to 3,600 of its 7,200 ATMs nationwide. New capabilities include envelope-free cash and check deposit, with immediate or same-day accessibility of deposited funds.

"PNC is always looking for innovative ways to make banking easier and more convenient for our customers," said Ken Justice, ATM executive for PNC. "Our ATM enhancements are another major investment to help customers bank when and where they want."

The "smart" ATMs can be located online at pnc.com/depositeasy. Features and capabilities include:

• checks deposited by 9:00 p.m. EST are considered same-day and cash is available immediately;
• an image of the deposited check is printed on the customer's receipt;
• customers may check balances or transfer funds between linked accounts;
• machines dispense denominations of $1, $10 and $20 for specific amounts;
• customers may set their customized ATM preferences online, for example, choosing a personalized Fast Cash amount and an ATM receipt option.

Justice said customers are increasingly taking advantage of PNC's investments in services and technology. In the second quarter of 2013, ATM and mobile channels accounted for 23 percent of all deposits, as compared with 14 percent in the same period of 2012.
