In its latest report, the European ATM Security Team reported a significant rise in explosive attacks on ATMs. But this year, at least, the Netherlands has contributed little to that phenomenon.
A Dutch News report said the total number of attacks for the first quarter of 2014 was six, compared with 129 attacks in the same period last year.
Police credit cooperation between law enforcement, banks and the justice system for the precipitous drop in offenses. This was helping police to connect attacks in different parts of the country, the article said.
The arrest last year of 65 suspects in two separate investigations also has helped to bring the numbers down, according to police.
