Authorities in Philadelphia have warned of an increase in ATM scams in the area and are on the lookout for two suspects. The two scams are card skimming and cash door traps, according to a report by NBC Philadelphia.
With the cash door trap, the cash is trapped in the door when it is dispensed, which makes users believe the ATM is out of money or out of order. The suspects return to the ATM after a while to remove the illegal device and take the cash.
Police have identified nine branches in the city that have these devices installed on them, and multiple skimmers as well. They recommend that impacted customers check their bank accounts for unusual activity and for odd devices on ATMs.
