Payments expert to inform, advise ATMIA on African markets

Andrew Dean, managing director of research consultancy Calleo and co-founder of Payments Afrika, will provide intelligence about payments and ATMs.

The ATM Industry Association has tapped Andrew Dean, managing director of research consultancy Calleo and co-founder of Payments Afrika, to provide intelligence and forecasting about payments and ATMs in Africa. The appointment takes effect Aug. 1.

"Africa has a future as big as the continent itself," said ATMIA CEO Mike Lee. "I have faith in Andrew to provide intelligent, timely thought leadership for our members and our industry across the broad spectrum of the changing payments and ATM landscapes of Africa."

Dean will oversee ATMIA committee work, including regulatory monitoring, and will provide conference content and ongoing market intelligence.

Calleo was founded in 2009 to promote the success of payments, banking and technology-based businesses. Payments Afrika is an independent news site focused on payments innovation in Africa and abroad — including news about ATMs; card, mobile, online and alternative payments; e-commerce; online banking, security and point-of-sale technology.

Dean said that Calleo and Payments Afrika were excited to be working with ATMIA, since the organizations all share a vital interest in advancing the banking and payments industries across Africa.

"Africa is becoming more digitally connected, more banked, and more driven to regional economic cooperation," he said. "Working together with ATMIA, we hope to contribute towards furthering cooperation and knowledge-sharing for all role-players in the retail banking and payments ecosystems in Africa."
