Oregon to consider allowing insurance claim payment via ATM

July 14, 2014

The insurance division of the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services has proposed a rule change that would allow insurance claims to be paid by automated teller machine.

Specifically, the rule allows an insurer — with the consent of a claimant — to pay claims by means of a prepaid card, direct deposit system, ATM card or debit card or other means of electronic transfer.

The department has announced that it will hold a hearing to address this proposal on July 24, with a comment period of one week to follow.
