Now that Congress has passed EFTA Reg E reform, New York is deciding whether to "be a part of it," you might say. State Assemblywoman Annette Robinson, D-Brooklyn, has introduced legislation that would eliminate the state's dual notice requirement for ATM operators.
Like the now stricken Reg E standard, New York law requires that all ATMs display two notices — a physical notice at the machine itself and a digital notice onscreen. And just like every other corner of the U.S. subject to Reg E, New York has seen its share of "missing sticker" lawsuits.
According to a report by Credit Union Times, Robinson's legislation would bring the state of New York into conformity with current fee notice law. It's about time Lincoln, Nebraska scored a one-up on New York, New York.
