Nihon NCR to cut 620 jobs

February 24, 2002

TOKYO -- Nihon NCR, the Japanese unit of NCR, has announced it will reduce its staffing level by 620 through early retirement and the shifting of employees to affiliate companies.

A company spokesman said 120 workers have agreed to take an early retirement program which was offered to workers last August. A further 500 workers will leave Nihon NCR and move to affiliate companies. Just over half will move to Nihon NCR Service Co. in Yokohama, near Tokyo, with the remainder moving to a yet-to-be-established company that will sell ATMs.

The action is part of a company-wide attempt at Nihon NCR to cut costs in the face of reducing profits and sales of computer hardware.
