New Zealand's BNZ to use eco-friendly paper in NCR SelfServ ATMs

June 1, 2009

DAYTON, OHIO — NCR Corp. says New Zealand financial institution BNZ expects to deploy NCR SelfServ ATMs that are equipped with dual-roll, two-sided thermal printing technology, better known as 2ST.

According to a news release, 2ST is patented NCR technology that enables businesses to print on both sides of a thermal-paper receipt, reducing paper consumption by as much as 45 percent. BNZ will deploy 2ST on more than three dozen NCR SelfServ ATMs, including the SelfServ 22, SelfServ 25 and SelfServ 34.

Launched in 2008, NCR is now shipping SelfServ ATMs to more than 100 countries.

NCR says that more than half of ATM downtime is related to low-level maintenance tasks, such as replacing receipt rolls and clearing cards or paper jams. With interactive full-motion video, NCR SelfServ will allow BNZ's branch staff to fix printer faults the first time, leading to better availability.

Beyond reducing the total consumption of paper by printing on both sides of the receipt, NCR SelfServ's dual-roll receipt modules include auto-change functionality to reduce paper wastage and maintenance costs through fewer replenishment visits.

"NCR's ATM solutions will help us reduce the operational costs of our ATM network while providing our customers with a premium experience," said Paul Johnson, ATM channel manager for BNZ. "Our ATM channel is an important part of our brand, as our customers and prospective customers rely heavily on our ATMs. NCR's solution will help us deliver a positive user experience, while helping us manage costs in this economic environment."
