New anti-skimming solution from ACG steps up DIP reader protection

As the ATM's card reader is powered down by the device sensor, its jamming signal is powered up to protect unwitting cardholders.

ACG has introduced the ECS 4-in-1, which it described in a press release as the first anti-skimming solution on the market to offer combined device detection and jamming protection for DIP card readers.

ACG Vice President of Global Business Development Matthias Thiele said this "game-changing" combination is important because deactivating the card reader on an ATM does not necessarily deactivate the skimming device, which often operates on a power source independent of its ATM host. Because the ATM will still appear to be fully functional, cardholders might attempt to use the machine, at which point their card data can be collected by the skimmer, Thiele explained.

With the dual solution, not only does the sensing technology alert to the tampering and deactivate the reader, but it also activates the jamming device, which provides continuing protection for the cardholder.

The ECS 4-in-1 is compatible with all major ATM brands, the release said.
