NCR Atleos announced its support for New York State's cash acceptance law, known as NY State Senate Bill 2025-S4153A.The bill went into effect earlier in March, banning businesses from going cashless, according to a press release.

Under the bill, retailers must accept cash denominations of $20 or less, or provide kiosks to convert cash into prepaid debit cards. Violators can face penalties of up to $1,000 for the first offense and $1,500 for subsequent violations.

This bill is designed to protect financially underserved populations who rely on cash for regular transactions.

"NCR Atleos fully supports New York's statewide cash‑acceptance requirement because access matters. Millions of Americans depend on cash every day, and no one should be excluded from commerce simply because of how they choose — or are able — to pay. In our view, this law aligns with financial services ecosystem participants' goals of broadening financial access, ensuring that every consumer can participate confidently in the economy and fostering a safe and stable financial system for all," Ben Bregman, SVP of solutions for NCR Atleos, said in the release.
