MADRID--NCR Corporation and Caja Duero, one of Spain's largest savings banks, have agreed to install and maintain 150 NCR ATMs in convenience locations across Spain. Caja Duero is the largest provider of ATMs in Central Spain.
In a prepared statement, Jeff Lutz, vice president of NCR's Financial Solutions division for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said NCR recognized the incredible growth of convenience ATMs in Spain, and moved to partner with Caja Duero.
"(T)he number of convenience ATMs has almost doubled in the last seven years," said Lutz. "This trend is likely to continue as financial institutions like Caja Duero see the business and consumer benefits of having ATMs placed away from bank branches and located where consumers need cash."
According to a recent study by Retail Banking Research, Spain ranks second in the world with 1,130 ATMs per million people. Also, according to a September 2000 report by the same company, Spain ranks fifth among nations in deploying off-premise ATMs, trailing the United States, Japan, United Kingdom and Brazil.
NCR's deal includes the installation of 70 Personas 86 machines at Halcon Viajes, one of Spain's largest travel agencies. The machines will be located at the company's main outlets across the country.
