Austrian, Dutch, German law enforcement agencies and Europol worked together to arrest four individuals who allegedly bombed ATMs in Austria. The agencies performed raids in three countries along with 12 premises. They were able to seize cash, explosive devices, high powered getaway vehicles and more, according to a report by Europol.
The authorities arrested four men in Austria and seized two cars, explosive devices and mobile phones. They also seized additional mobile phones and evidence in Germany along with cash, GPS trackers and other cars in the Netherlands. They believe that these men worked with a German citizen who provided rental car and help with logistics.
The investigation revealed that some of the suspects were in Austria weeks prior to the robberies, possibly scouting out locations for the bombs. These attacks caused significant damage to both the machines and the surrounding areas. This is part of a wider effort to improve ATM security and prevent these explosive attacks.
