October 14, 2014

Twenty new financial institutions have signed up to use Paym, the person-to-person mobile payment service from the U.K. Payments Council.

Clydesdale Bank, Isle of Man Bank, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ulster Bank and Yorkshire Bank are among the new banks that will offer Paym this year, with exact launch dates that will be confirmed in November, according to a press release. Ipagoo, Metro Bank, Nationwide Building Society and Tesco Bank plan to join in 2015.

Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Cumberland Building Society, Danske Bank, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, Santander and TSB already offer Paym, which the council frames as the first mobile payments service with the potential to link up every current account in the country with a mobile number.

Since the service launched in April 1,450,000 customers have registered for Paym with their bank or building society. The second phase of rollout will continue over coming months.
