Maybe it was just poor planning

January 31, 2012

A bungled burglary left an automatic teller machine stuck under a stolen four-wheel drive on a median strip in southern Perth, Australia, according to a news story at perthnow.com.

Police said a gang of five men wearing jeans, hoodies and gloves smashed their way into The Lakes Shopping Centre at around 2:40 a.m. with a Toyota Landcruiser and a dark blue sports car.

The would-be burglars then rammed an ATM five times before using the Landcruiser to push the machine out of the shopping mall, in the process trapping it under the vehicle. Finding themselves unable to either force open or free the ATM, the suspects fled the scene in the sports car.

This is not the first time perpetrators have found themselves high-centered on a cash machine. On Dec. 28 of last year, thieves in Portland, Ore., had to abandon their van after getting it stuck on an ATM in another botched robbery attempt, said a report at thebeenews.com.
