The Edge Financial Daily: MasterCard's new Malaysian debit card is expected to tap consumers who are currently not credit cardholders.MasterCard vice president and senior country manager Jim Cheah says of the country's 15 million ATM cardholders only 5 million have more than one credit card. Excluding credit cardholders, Cheah estimates the potential market size for MasterCard's debit card could be 10 million or more."You can imagine the vast potential of the 10 million people holding ATM cards who would love to use the cards as a payment mode at the point-of-sale," he said.
