LSU scientists develop efficiency software

May 16, 2010

Scientists at Louisiana State University have developed software that can monitor systems, make decisions, learn from results and adjust decisions on future situations accordingly.

According toan article in The Advocate, the software could affect ATMs. While current software can easily decline an ATM transaction if a customer tries to withdraw more money than exists in an account, this software can make more complex decisions. An example would be declining a withdrawal because the amount is 50 percent more than the average of the past 10 transactions and the ATM is more than 200 miles away from the previous withdrawal. Such decision making ability could help prevent theft.

The scientists hope to complete work on the software by the end of the summer.
