In an effort to help consumers find the nearest free cash machine, the UK's main ATM provider, Link, has upgraded its ATM locator to include thousands of post office branches across the country.
Free ATMs are becoming scarce in the country. As an alternative, many UK banks allow customers to access their bank account at post offices at no charge.
"The Post Office allows customers to withdraw cash from their account, so it is sensible to integrate their network to the app so customers have more information at their fingertips," Mary Buffee, Link's chief consumer affairs officer, stated in a press release. "Consumer spending habits are changing, but it's always good to know where you can cash out when you need it."
Originally launched in 2017, the Link app points users to the location of 62,500 Link ATMs as well as post offices, where anyone with a high street bank account can deposit and withdraw cash for free and check their balance.
The app also allows users to filter search results to find ATMs that provide audio assistance, ATMs that dispense £5 notes, free-to-use ATMs, or those belonging to a particular bank. If you are hunting down a post office branch, the app also shares the hours it's open.
Link's ATM-finder tool is available online and as an app for both iOS and Android.
