The ATM Industry Association has published a new guide documenting best practices for securing ATM cabinets and managing physical keys for cabinets.
"In the cyber age, access to data and electronics within the ATM is just as much an attraction to criminals as cash, so all these assets need to be protected," ATMIA CEO Mike Lee said in a press release. "This manual shows what the known methods are for accessing ATM cabinets and what the corresponding risk mitigation steps are."
Industry security analyst and consultant Douglas Russell wrote the guide, which evaluates the security of ATM top boxes and fascias and makes recommendations for higher levels of security.
"Douglas has done a great job of reminding our industry how best to prevent unauthorized access to the ATM internals," Lee said. "This is essential reading for ATM industry professionals."
