Level Four adds support for EPP, remote key management to ATM testing software

April 13, 2003

LONDON -- Level Four Software, a provider of ATM test and development software, has added 3DES FastTrack, which includes additional functionality to aid banks in the introduction of remote key management strategies and Encrypted PIN Pad (EPP) devices, to its Channel Development Suite.

The Channel Development Suite, a suite of software modules that enable development of new ATM applications and end-to-end testing of ATM networks, is designed to help banks prepare their ATM networks for compliance with the Triple DES security standard being mandated by the major card networks. Banks are also being encouraged to use EPPs and remote key management strategies to further secure the ATM environment and reduce risk.

According to a news release, deployers using 3DES FastTrack can simulate an ATM with Triple-DES cryptography and run thorough tests from a desktop environment, eliminating the need for manual testing. If an error occurs during testing, the 3DES FastTrack component is able to identify the source of the problem.

"The credit and debit card industry is highly dependent on PIN numbers for the authentication of transactions. With the introduction of EMV smart cards and PIN at the point-of-sale, ensuring the security of the PIN and consumer data information becomes even more important," said Jan Rees, Level Four Software's business development manager. "3DES FastTrack will enable banks to trouble shoot new ATM security and risk management features
with confidence and be ready for the mandated Triple-DES compliance in 2005."

According to the release, Level Four's clients include the Royal Bank of Scotland and Abbey National. Level Four has offices in Dunfermline, Scotland and in London.
