Layton City, Utah has passed an ordinance that bans cryptocurrency ATMs from operating within the city.
The city made this decision when it discovered that around $2 million had been lost due to crypto ATM fraud from 2021 to 2025, according to a report by KUTV.
The ordinance requires all machines to be removed within 60 days. It does not ban the personal use of cryptocurrency.
"Residents are urged to be cautious of any request to make payments using cryptocurrency — especially if accompanied by urgency, threats or instructions to keep the transaction secret," the Layton City Police Department told the news outlet.
Layton City joins Indiana, which banned cryptocurrency ATMs in March 2026.
