Largest ISOs grab larger share of ATMs

June 12, 2002

The number of ATMs managed by the industry's 10 largest independent sales organizations (ISOs) grew last year by 16 percent, according to ATM&Debit News.

The magazine's 2001 survey showed the top-10 ISOs holding 51,360 long-term ATM contracts; this year the top-10 held 59,596 contracts.

The research showed ISOs grew by acquiring existing contracts last year, and that few ISOs deployed significant numbers of ATMs at new sites.

This year EFunds Corp., a debit transaction processor based in Scottsdale, Ariz., became the nation's leading turn-key operator of non-bank ATMs. In the past year the company scooped up three ATM ISOs (Access Cash, Hanco and Samsar), giving it 12,000 ATMs operating in retail locations. Last year it had none.
