La Caixa, Spain’s largest savings bank, has deployed contactless ATMs.
The Barcelona-based financial institution has installed the ATMs in Barcelona, Sitges and Palma de Mallorca, and it plans to expand its network of contactless machines to other cities.
The bank’s cardholders wave their debit cards next to a card reader and type in their four-digit PIN to withdraw cash. Currently, cardholders only can withdraw funds from the machines, but the bank plans to add more services to the ATMs. Fujitsu developed the contactless technology for the ATMs.
